The Trust
The purposes of the Trust are set out in The Dunbar Harbour Revision (Transfer) Order 2004 as follows:
- operating the harbour for the benefit of all its stakeholders including both port users and the local community;
- maintaining and improving the harbour facilities;
- attracting new users of the harbour and new business to the harbour;
- advancing public education concerning the harbour; and
- providing facilities in the interest of social welfare for recreation and leisure-time occupation.
All members of the Board of the Trust are local volunteers who are committed to realising the potential of Dunbar harbour. Appointment to the Board is achieved through an application, interview and selection process in accordance with the terms of Revision Order and can serve as a member of the Board for a period of up to 12 years.
The Trust has embarked on several projects aimed at improving the general facilities for harbour users and stabilising and preserving some of the historical features of the Harbour for the benefit of the community and as an attraction for visitors.
In order to gauge the level of local and visitor support for these projects, a questionnaire was prepared which was completed by harbour users and visitors to the harbour and to Dunbar. The results of this survey enabled the Trust to concentrate its efforts on those projects with the most support.
