Refurbishment of the exterior of the building has been completed with just one small detail still outstanding.

However, during the course of replacing the windows, it was discovered that there was asbestos cement sheeting behind the plasterboard dry lining of the interior walls.

Specialist contractors have been employed to carry out an analysis and provide a quotation for the removal of the material which will be carried out once it is possible to move the harbourmaster into office space in McArthur’s store.

Unfortunately, due mainly to delays with the bad weather, McArthur’s store is unlikely to be available before the end of March 2009

In the meantime we are advised that it is safe to continue using the office provided that the asbestos cement is not disturbed.
